ZJ 2wd to 4wd conversion
April 19th 2006 @ 11:08 pm Recently Added

I read all of the 4×4 and Jeep magazines I can get my hands on. Over the years I’ve seen a common question in “letters to the editor”. How can I convert my 2 wheel drive vehicle 4 wheel drive. The editor usually replies about how complex and expensive it will be so it’s best to just buy a four wheel drive to begin with. I’ve been under my Jeep enough to know that that seems like good advice. After all, there are lots of complex engineered parts that go into making a Jeep four wheel drive. It seems hardly worth all the trouble, right? Well Billy Wheeler might have proved me wrong. He fell in love with his 2wd 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee (ZJ) and when decided he needed 4 wheel drive he just couldn’t part with his ZJ. So off he went to find donor parts to convert it and he documented his quest. Follow the link to find out how he did it, some of the problems he faced and what he’s doing to his ZJ now, especially after recently drowning it :-) .

As of this writing, his how-to page is hosted by Geocities so be prepared to see some advertising (including a pop-up window). Have your popup blocker on (we’ve had good luck with the blocker built into the Google Toolbar, a free download) and spend a few minutes seeing how Billy did it. It’s worth a visit.
