It seems we’re always looking for ways to increase the power of our Jeeps. There are high flow air filters, larger bore throttle bodies, engine stroking projects, performance exhaust systems, even superchargers for most stock Jeep engines. But for those who want BIG horsepower gains, the engine upgrade of choice seems to be swapping in a larger, more powerful engine. Jeeps with Chevy 350 engines and Corvette LT1 engines, though still relatively rare, are becoming more commonplace in modified Jeep engine compartments. But if you’re looking to turn heads as well as spin wheels you can’t do much better than a 10 cylinder, 8 liter Dodge Viper engine. I’ve worked on Jeep Wrangler engine compartments on Jeeps with 4.2 liter, 2.5 liter and 4.0 liter fuel injected engines and have always been happy with the amount of space for working around. But I cannot imagine how someone would find the space to shoehorn in an 8 liter V10. Well somebody has. We added a link to this website way back in August 2001 and it’s proven to be popular, with over 18,000 clicks since then (as of this writing). The page is not a how-to but more of an overview of how it was done. Although a short feature, it will answer your questions about why would anyone put a Viper engine in a Jeep, what driveline they use to take the abuse and how much did it cost.
