Note: If you’re getting this page after clicking the link to 4×4trailers.com on JeepsOnly, it’s because that website is not working at this time.
I’m going to admit something openly for the world to see. I love trailers. I can’t get enough of them. I personally own two but only because I got rid of the third during a recent move. Trailers enable us to add functionality to our vehicles, usually without spending a whole lot of money. You can buy utility trailers for yard work and general hauling, camper trailers and popups, car haulers to take your Jeep to the trail and even special offroad trailers to drag over rough terrain. One of my favorite trailers is a 40 year old M416 1/4 ton ex-military trailer I pull behind my Jeep. You can read more about it on my M416 project page. I’ve dragged that poor thing almost everywhere I’ve taken my Jeep. It may be old, a little rusty and covered in 20 layers of OD green paint but I’ve moved all kinds of junk in that thing. And one of these days it will look good again and I’ll use it for camping. Trouble is, I’ve been saying that for almost 5 years now. My “budget” offroad trailer has cost me $1400 so far (acquisition code, plus upgrades) and I have a way to go before being done. I hate to admit it in front of my wife but sometimes I think I should have just bought a new offroad trailer instead of building my own.
And that’s where 4×4 Trailers Ltd comes in. 4×4 Trailers in Las Vegas, NV has been building offroad trailers for several years now, most of which look just like the squared M416 I’m building. They offer all kinds of options that Im going to have to fabricate. Their website is easy to navigate with lots of pictures. It’s fast and the menu system is simple.
However…as of this writing (April 2006) their website has been unavailable for a while. I seem to remember something about a note on their website in late 2005 saying they were selling their business or something. I have no idea what happened to 4×4 Trailers Ltd, but I miss their website. Hopefully it will come back online sometime soon. For now, I’ll link the JeepsOnly listing here while I keep checking for the site to be operational again. As of this writing, 14,591 visits were sent to their website since we added it to JeepsOnly in March of 2001.
In the meantime, there are other offroad trailer manufactures out there and although none I know of follow the M416 design like 4×4 Trailers Ltd did, there are seem really innovative designs! Check out the following links to get your offroad trailer fix:

I was really interested in a trailer from 4×4 Trailer LTD and was really disaapointed when they closed shop. Any new info on someone starting it up again? I have a E350 Diesel 4×4 van and wanted the full size version they built with a steel lockable top and rack. Anybody know of one for sale?
I haven’t heard anything. A quick search in the news and in Google didn’t reveal anything new either. I’m disappointed. I wish they would have at least left up a page indicating what customers can do if they need help, etc. From where I sit they had a good thing going but I don’t know the financial details for their company.
Have you consider a 3/4 ton or 1 ton military surplus trailer? Put some work into it and you’d have a nice trailer for your van.
Thanks Bill…yeah that was my next choice, they just had a very nice finshed product…if you see one for sale please don’t hesitate to contact me, again thanks!
Chris

4×4trailers.com now know as Tentrax and as seen in the Daimler Chrysler 2007 Jeep Wrangler Brochure is the only “Terrain Rated” off road camping trailer available toady.
Thanks Darcy BUT…Tentrax has been around for a long time. Did you guys acquire 4×4trailers.com? Not just the website domain name but the company also? I love the Tentrax trailer concept but it’s totally different from the original 4×4trailers.com concept, which mimics the military M416.
And I don’t mean to be critical but would you explain to us what “Terrain Rated” means as it relates to an offroad trailer?
Thanks,
Bill
Check us out for a light-weight trailer with style.
We are just setting up manufacturing for our trailers. Look for us at Jeep events starting with Moab in Easter 2007

I seem to remember that there was aproblem with the website of 4×4trailersltd….it would send you to 4×4trailers which is tentrex….they are not the same….anybody with news on the old 4×4 trailers out of Las Vegas please send it….looking for a good trailer….M416 style but as big a fullsize pickup bed….(like 4×4 trailer LTD)
I have a M-416 trailer for sale. It’s in great shape. Only has surface rust where the paint has flaked off - no rotted out places. No major dents. Tires not cracked. Hand brake works, still has the pintel hitch, elec. pig-tail. Original Army ordinance tag still in place, but is missing the model/serial number tag on rear. I’m in Colorado about 45 miles north of Denver. If you’re interested, I can email pictures and discuss $$.
I’m trying to contact Buff4lo Industries in Parker CO.
It seems that they might not be around any more!?
Does anyone know how to reach them?
